Pain can affect every aspect of your life. It can prevent you from being fully active in all areas of your life. Pain can affect your relationships with your spouse, your children (grandchildren!) and friends.
You feel like you’ve tried ‘everything’ and seen ‘everyone’! You’ve done all the right things yet you’re still in pain. By now it may feel as though your schedule revolves around your pain.
I can help – my job is to help find out why your pain exists and where it originated (which is not always the site of pain!).
Together we’ll work to reduce the pain and keep it from reoccurring.

The Treatments

What you need to know.

I am not a typical massage therapist – in fact, I don’t do massage!
Very rarely does anyone simply receive a treatment form me. At PJE Therapeutic Services, I specialize in synergistic, therapeutic problem-solving using bodyworking techniques such as NeuroKinetic Therapy® (NKT), Active Isolated Stretching (AIS), Myofascial Therapy and specific strengthening, to name a few.
I work together with my clients to detect causes of pain. Through comprehensive intake and assessments, we’ll seek out and address physical restrictions that may be contributing to your pain and discomfort. This is just the beginning, however. We will continue to affect positive change in your physical situation through flexibility, postural re-alignment and specific strength.
What do I mean by “we’ll work together”? I mean you will not be lying on a table receiving a treatment. You will be fully engaged in the session participating in each stretch and test. Oh, and there will be homework… er, I mean self-care techniques!

Your Session

What you can expect.

A treatment can consist of many techniques. The three most common are NeuroKinetic Therapy® (NKT), Active Isolated Stretching (AIS) and Myofascial Therapy (MT).
NKT is the cornerstone to my bodyworking world; it is a vital component to the detection of initial pain and/or its preliminary causes.
AIS is an important adjunct to improved mobility and can facilitate the healing of most injuries.
 AIS is widely used in the prevention of injury and rehabilitation.
MT can help to re-align and strategically release tension in fascial the planes that may currently be holding your body in restricted patterns that ultimately affect both gait and stance. One way or the other these restrictions will eventually begin reporting pain.

The Techniques

NeuroKinetic Therapy®

NeuroKinetic Therapy® is a sophisticated assessment and treatment modality that addresses the causes of dysfunctional movement and coordination problems at their root in the motor control center.

Active Isolated Stretching

AIS is an outstanding technique for improving posture and helping to restore proper body alignment, which can help to eliminate physical pain. One of the elements that makes AIS superior in dealing with physical restrictions and flexibility problems is that it has no age boundaries and very few contraindications. AIS can be used by the very young and by the most senior of senior citizens.
Active Isolated Stretching can affect positive change in conditions such as carpal tunnel syndrome, torticollis or rotator cuff injuries as well as sciatica and bunions.

Myofascial Therapy

A powerful ally to most other modalities, Myofascial Therapy is designed to open up the fascia structures in the body. It is a gentle, precise modality that works directly on the connective tissues of the body to assist in the release of chronic holding patterns that can cause muscular pain  or postural distortions. It is often used as a post-injury and/or post-surgery therapy to break down scar tissue.

Cranio-Sacral Therapy

Cranial-Sacral Therapy enables healing from the inside out, affecting the nervous system and allowing it to translate changes to the rest of the body. This technique utilizes special skills to feel changes and irregularities in the spinal fluid, as well as very gentle techniques to adjust the neighboring structures of the central nervous system.

Education

Stretching Canada’s AIS Foundations 1, Foundations 2 and Advanced AIS seminars.

 
Founder of Stretching Canada, Paul John Elliott teaches bringing his 2-day Foundations and Advanced seminars to manual therapists, athletic therapists, personal trainers and movement (Pilates and Yoga) specialists nation-wide.
The AIS Foundations 1 + 2 seminars offer manual therapists new approaches to issues related to physical restrictions caused from sport-related injuries, overuse syndromes or the simple rigors of everyday life.
Stretching Canada is recognized as the Canadian authority on Active Isolated Stretching. The AIS Foundations and Advanced seminars focus on empowering therapists and their clients with the tools that can help eliminate physical pain and to regain or improve their quality of life.
 

FAQ's

Your First Visit

On your first session, give yourself a few extra minutes so you can fill out the confidential “Client Intake Form”. To maximize our precious session time, take the time you need to give me as comprehensive a history as possible. We’ll get to the bottom of things with even more more questions during the assessments.  History is everything!

Can you diagnose pain issues?

Dammit, Jim. I’m a manual therapist; not a doctor!. While diagnosing is well outside my scope of practice, you can’t manage what you can’t measure, so I’ll do a series of assessments and build a treatment upon those assessments.

The Assessments

I’ll need to understand a bit more about you. Your initial consultation includes a short interview,  Your therapist will then proceed to a Posture and Mobility assessment to identify the issues they need to address.

What's Your Cancellation Policy?

Yes! I ask for at least 24 hours heads up if you need to cancel. Pain can seem amplified when you can’t see your trusted therapist nowNowNOW! The 24 hours notice helps ensure that those on the waiting list have an opportunity to get a last-minute appointment. I thank you, those suffering will thank you and perhaps you’ll feel the same gratitude when it’s your turn :)  While there are some exclusions to this rule, you will be billed for the session time.

Corporate Stretching

Corporate Stretching is an on-site one-on-one stretching session. The Active Isolated Stretching (AIS) protocols are performed fully clothed on business owners and employees in their own corporate setting.
Studies (and common sense) have shown that happy, healthy employees contribute to a company’s success. Decreasing stress and increasing energy has positive effects that reverberate throughout the entire organization.
Stretching for a Healthy Bottom Line! Our job is to help your company keep its competitive edge by ensuring the well-being and health of your employees.

The Flex Squad

The Flex Squad is a team of manual therapists who are highly trained in AIS. In the individual 15-minute  sessions, The Flex Squad team will focus on effective stretching protocols developed to enhance muscular performance, prevent injury and increase mental acuity.

Do I Have to Get Undressed?

Nope! Although you’ll need to wear stretchy clothes that are easy to move around in (They don’t call Active Stretching for nuthin!).
You can either bring your own gym or yoga attire however, if you come straight from the office or you’re heading there afterwards, there are plenty of freshly cleaned T-shirts and shorts at the clinic.

What IS fascia?!!

Fascia is a continuous matrix of elastic connective tissue that surrounds every muscle, bone, organ, nerve, and cell of the body from head to toe. Problems such as soft-tissue injuries or chronic dysfunctions created in the fascia can be caused by physical trauma, inflammation and repetitive stress.
